Duties and
Responsibilities:
Environmental
Health Specialists/Sanitarians administer environmental and health programs for
both public and private agencies and organizations in food protection and
safety, water protection, air quality, noise, industrial and land pollution,
sewage disposal, hazardous and toxic substances, solid waste management,
emergency management and institutional health.Registration signifies a level of
expertise and competence based on education and experience that is nationally
recognized within the environmental health profession. Examination has the
primary purpose of protecting the public by eliminating the unqualified from
professional practice. It is not designed to identify the most competent
members of the profession, but to assure a minimum level of competence among
all practitioners.
Education:
Bachelor's
degree from a university or college with at least 45 quarter-hours of science
background in environmental sanitation and two years of experience in
environmental health working under the supervision of an environmental health
specialist Or, a graduate degree in community health or public health and one
year of experience in environmental health working under the supervision of an
environmental health specialist Reciprocity: Bachelor's or graduate degree as
noted above and affidavit of licensure demonstrating proof of current active
registration with no current or pending disciplinary action. The registration
must have been issued by a regulatory body of another state or a national
association recognized by the board.
